The Zapp-Von Rosenberg House (1875)
This was the home of Round Top’s first music teacher, complete with the only cistern remaining in town. The cistern was where people drew water and did washing. Rainwater ran through wood gutters around the building directly into the cistern. Early Texans were noted for their hospitality, which is the reason for having the “strangers’ rooms” in the front of the house. They were left open at night for travelers.
